Chiropractor for Carpal Tunnel Serving Central

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel is the result of pressure on the median nerve. The nerve and tendons stretch from the hand to the forearm in a small area of the wrist called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve gives feeling to the thumb and first three fingers and is responsible for movement. When swelling or other restrictions put pressure on the carpal tunnel it effects the median nerve — causing carpal tunnel syndrome.

What are the Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

One symptom you should look out for is pain in all fingers except the little finger. Carpal tunnel is often the feeling of discomfort, tingling, weakness or numbness.

What Can I do at Home to Relieve Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

For mild cases of carpal tunnel syndrome, we recommended the people of Central:

  • Ice your wrist for 10 to 15 minutes once an hour.
  • Take pain relief medication, including anti-inflammatory nonprescription drugs.
  • Stop activities when you begin to feel numbness or pain.
  • Wear a wrist splint at night as it can take pressure off the nerve.

Can a Chiropractor Help With Carpal Tunnel?

Yes, they can. Chiropractic care is the leading non-invasive treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome. As the median nerve is connected to the spinal cord, a chiropractor will not only look at your wrist, but will examine your elbow, shoulder, and upper back. Pain in the wrist can come from an obstruction along the median nerve so it is very important to examine the whole nerve beyond the wrist. After manipulations and adjustments made by the chiropractor, you should feel a release of pressure. Continue your treatment at home with recommended exercises.

It should be noted that a single treatment will not permanently solve the problem, however, it will help manage the pain and provide the client with a deeper understanding of what can be done to control the symptoms.
